The surface of laminate flooring is a highly detailed photographic image that is overlaid with transparent, extremely durable plastic laminate (similar to the material used for countertops). The base material is a wood-composite product, often medium-density fiberboard (MDF). A backing layer is then added to prevent moisture seepage, which can damage the planks.
Laminate floors are installed as floating floors, meaning they are not glued or nailed to the sub floor. Instead, the individual tongue and groove planks are joined by a click system or fastened to each other with an adhesive and must be installed over a thin foam pad.
It is not recommended to install laminate in bathrooms but, if you do install laminate floor in a bathroom, you must be particularly be careful to join and seal the edges of the planks to prevent moisture from seeping between or below the planks. And definitely you will lose your warranty.
Most manufacturers of laminate flooring products offer installation instructions.
Being very resistant to stains and scratches, laminate flooring is bound to last a long, long time. It requires very minimal effort in cleaning and maintenance; it has very good fire retardant properties, making it very safe as a floor covering material for both commercial and residential sites. Best of all, the choice of colours and designs are almost endless.M
Laminate flooring is heat-resistant, fade-resistant, stain-resistant, wear-resistant, impact-resistant, does not breed dust-mites & micro-organisms, hygienic & anti-allergic, resistant to common household chemicals.
In addition, laminate flooring can be laid directly on your existing floor including wood, tile, and vinyl, (carpeting must be removed), and thus, it is unnecessary to spend more money hacking away the existing floor.
Laminate flooring is also pre-finished for your total convenience. You do not have to sand or varnish it after installation, not even after years of usage. It will look as good as new, giving you years and years of convenience and comfort.
